Ghate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Email: <a href=\"mailto:vghate@anl.gov\">vghate@anl.gov<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virendra is a Principal Atmospheric Scientist working in the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department of the Environmental Science Division (EVS). He holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nagpur University, and a PhD in Meteorology from University of Miami. He did his post-doctoral work at the Rutgers University, and has been working at Argonne since 2013. His current research is primarily focused on marine boundary layer stratocumulus and shallow cumulus clouds, and the wind resource characterization. He has participated in multiple airborne, shipborne, and ground-based large field experiments with more than 200 hours of experience as a flight scientist and more than 8 months of sea time. She received her undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Cagliari, Italy and her Ph.D. in Physics from Heriot-Watt University, UK. Maria was a postdoc at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and then at Argonne National Laboratory where she has been working since 2005. He holds bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in Physics from the Presidency University, Kolkata, India, and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA. His current work (2023 onwards) focuses on investigating satellite, and reanalysis model data to understand the linkages between clouds, precipitation and near-surface winds off the coast of the western United States. This work is funded by the Department of Energy (DoE) and for characterizing wind resources. Apart for that, he is also involved in using data collected from the\u00a0Eastern Pacific Cloud Aerosol Precipitation Experiment (EPCAPE) field campaign\u00a0to identify characteristics test cases suitable for intense modeling exercises to improve existing wind energy models. He has 7+ years of experience in using remote sensing data from various sources (satellites, ground based and aerial) for a variety of different applications \u2013 long-term cloud analysis, satellite uncertainty quantification, satellite fusion, building machine learning models of the ionosphere, among many more.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is always keenly interested in multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of Earth Observation and extreme weather mitigation\/adaptation.
