SUMMARY:ACCESS Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Argonne Collaborative Center for Energy Storage Science (ACCESS) Seminar \n  \nSpeaker: Andrew Chien\, Argonne Senior Scientist and William Eckhardt Distinguished Service Professor at University of Chicago \n  \nDate/Time: April 9\, 2026/11:00AM \nLocation: Building 200\, C182-T/ Teams \n  \nTitle: “Energy Storage Role(s) and Opportunity in the Gigawatt Datacenter Power MicroGrid.” \n  \nAbstract: Datacenters of 1GW are now routine and all include significant power micro-grids including generation\, conversion\, and energy storage at multiple levels. This creates exciting new opportunities for new technologies and system innovation. However\, the environment is demanding. Technologies must conform to the environment — heat\, size\, speed\, lifetime — and fit demanding requirements\, including performance\, cost\, and reliability. These datacenters are built in 12 months from groundbreaking to operation.  And this is evolving at a rapid pace\, changing with each new generation of AI\, and AI hardware. \n  \nIn addition\, the next ACCESS webinar will take place on Thursday\, Apr. 16 at 11:00 am and will feature Brandon Wood of Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab. Details and an abstract for that event are forthcoming. \n  \nPlease reach out to Marlene Metz\, Adam Fisher\, Julie Wulf-Knoerzer or me with any questions or ideas. We’re looking forward to seeing you this Thursday.
