October 16, 2012 @ 10:30 CDT
Seminar Title: The FEniCS Project
Speaker: Anders Logg, Senior Research Scientist, Simula Research Laboratory & Associate Professor, University of Oslo
Date/Time: 2012-10-16 10:30
Location: Building 240, 1405
Description:
In this talk I present an overview of the FEniCS Project, a free/open-source project for the development of innovative concepts and tools for automated scientific computing, with a particular focus on automated solution of differential equations by finite element methods. FEniCS has an extensive list of features for automated, efficient solution of differential equations, including automated solution of variational problems, automated error control and adaptivity, a comprehensive library of finite elements, high performance linear algebra, and many more. I will also present an overview of our work on finite element methods on cut meshes for the simulation of fluid flow and fluid-structure interaction. Cut mesh finite element methods allow the problem domain to be composed of a set of non-matching and overlapping meshes, which can be used for the formulation of very general and flexible methods for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction on complex and deforming geometries.
