LANS Informal Seminar: Josh Wilson
June 21, 2017 @ 15:00 CDT
Seminar Title: Instantaneous time mirrors for graphene plasmons
Speaker: Josh Wilson, Ph.D. Candidate, University of Minnesota
Date/Time: 2017-06-21 15:00
Location: Bldg. 240, rooms 1404 & 1405
Description:
Nanophotonic devices typically control light through spatial patterns–bumps, grooves, gratings, etc. A recent paper [1], however, points out the possibility of instead controlling light through temporal patterns; i.e. controlling the flow of light by modifying material properties in time. The new class of 2D materials is an attractive candidate for such a program because of the ease of temporal modulation of their conductivities. In this talk we will discuss some basic equations governing temporal reflections in graphene and how they can be used to control the flow of graphene plasmons.
