Seminar Title: Smart Grid Co-Simulations involving Energy Market, Energy Grid and Information & Communication Technology Models using the Common Information Model
Speaker: Lukas Razik, Researcher Assistant, ACS at E.ON Energy Research Center, Aachen, Germany
Date/Time: 2015-08-26 10:30
Location: Building 240, Room 1404-1405
Description:
In the past the power flow used to propagate from central power stations through the transmission network to distribution networks and finally delivered to companies and households. Due to the recent energy turnaround there are more and more distributed energy resources (DERs) like solar / wind power plants, photovoltaic installations or decentral combined heat and power stations leading to increased power generation within the distribution networks. This implies a shift of the requirements on the distribution networks forcing their operators (DNOs) to make large investments into more complex, so-called, Smart Grids. This requires the usage of modern information and communication technologies (ICTs) specified in many standards composed within the IEC TC57 Reference Architecture. Some of these standards (IEC 61970) specify the Common Information Model (CIM) – a formal language based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) for machine readable data exchange. CIM defines a common vocabulary and the types, properties and interrelationships of entities (e.g. power grid equipment) of the electric power industry. After a short presentation of Lukas Razik and his PhD project (SINERGIEN – a Co-Simulation Platform for combined Energy Grid, Energy Market and ICT simulations) where CIM is used, there will be an overview of the TC57 Reference Architecture followed by an introduction into CIM and its representation by XML-RDF files.
