LANS Informal Seminar: Saurabh Chawdhary

May 15, 2019 @ 10:30 CDT

Seminar Title: Adaptive Mesh Refinement for incompressible CFD simulations
Speaker: Saurabh Chawdhary, Postdoctoral Appointee, MCS/ANL

Date/Time: 2019-05-15 10:30
Location: Bldg. 240, Rm. 4301

Description:
In this talk I will present my (past and ongoing) work on using Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) for
incompressible fluid flow simulations. AMR has traditionally been developed for compressible flows but has
found its way into other scientific domains as well because of its inherent ability to resolve multiple scales using
a single composite mesh. Different approaches to AMR have been pursued by researchers but block-structured
AMR (SAMR) happens to be the most popular. FLASH is a SAMR-based multi-component multi-physics
scientific code capable of performing simulations across multiple domains including, astrophysics, HEDP,
compressible and incompressible flows. I will discuss the current work to build upon existing capabilities of
FLASH in order to simulate various types of flow problems.
