August 29, 2018 @ 10:30 CDT

Seminar Title: Randomization for the Efficient Computation of Reduced Order Models
Speaker: Selin Sariaydin, Postdoctoral Appointee, XSD/ANL

Date/Time: 2018-08-29 10:30
Location: Bldg. 240. Rm. 4301

Description:
Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) in medical image reconstruction presents huge computational challenges since we need to solve many large-scale discretized PDEs for each evaluation of the misfit or the objective function. Moreover, in the nonlinear case each time the Jacobian is evaluated an additional set of systems must be solved. One can use reduced order models to reduce this cost. However, computing the reduced order model still requires solving many systems. In this talk, we discuss how computing reduced order models using stochastic approach can significantly reduce the cost of the inversion process in DOT.
