These approaches combine traditional optimization techniques for inverse problems with machine-learning (ML) techniques for faster reconstruction. I will also discuss a challenging problem arising in the design scanning trajectories that can be formulated as an optimal design-of-experiment problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bio:<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Sven Leyffer joined the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne in 2002, where he is now a senior computational mathematician. Sven is a\u00a0SIAM\u00a0Fellow, and a senior fellow of the University of Chicago\/Argonne Computation Institute.\u00a0\u00a0 He is the current\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siam.org\/\">SIAM<\/a>\u00a0 President and serves on the editorial boards of Computational Optimization and Applications, and Mathematics of Computation.\u00a0 In 2006, Leyffer (along with two colleagues) received the Lagrange Prize in Continuous Optimization, which is awarded only once every 3 years.
