In a bounded-confidence model (BCM) of opinion dynamics, individuals (which are represented by the nodes of a network) have continuous-valued opinions and are influenced by neighboring nodes whose opinions are sufficiently similar to theirs (i.e., are within a confidence bound). In this talk, I will introduce and formulate some extensions of the Hegselmann&#8211;Krause and Deffuant&#8211;Weisbuch BCMs with several &#8220;adaptive&#8221; features. I will discuss some of the analytical and numerical findings on our extended BCMs, which provide insight into their dynamics,\u00a0including some qualitative behaviors that are absent in the associated baseline BCMs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"tribe-events-single-event-description tribe-events-content\">\n<p><b>Bio:<\/b> Jerry Luo is a postdoc in the Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago, where I&#8217;m working with Professor James Evans. I received my Ph.D. (in applied mathematics) at UCLA, where my advisor was Mason Porter.
